Raw Carrot Cake Bliss Balls
Vegan • No-Bake • Naturally Sweet
The promise of a storm — the first of the season — darkens the sky as I sit in a rare pocket of quiet. Two small bodies sleep nearby, breathing deep and heavy, completely unaware of the electricity building above us.
There is something deeply magical about storms. Energetic and free. Powerful. Wild.
I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember, a love that sits somewhere alongside my love for the ocean — untamed and unapologetic.
We used to tell stories to soften the fear for two little boys, saying the sky was simply turning the lights on and off. Now they press their faces to the glass, squealing with delight when lightning splits the heavens open. Thunder sends them scrambling, laughing, chasing the sound as if they’re playing catch with the weather itself.
And while I sit dreaming of the storm to come, I’m nibbling on Raw Carrot Cake Bliss Balls.

They’re the kind of recipe you make once and then quietly rely on again and again.
I have always loved the convenience of a bliss ball — not just the ease of eating (no cutlery, no plates), but the beauty of ingredient density. So much nourishment packed into something so small.
These bliss balls are brimming with goodness, yet still feel indulgent. Perfectly balanced in sweetness, the carrots, orange zest and cashews form the “cake” element — think orange and almond cake, but raw. There’s a gentle nuttiness from the linseed meal, softened by the natural sweetness of fresh dates and carrots.
I’ve used both coconut oil and solidified coconut cream here. I’m not a huge fan of the overpowering flavour that some coconut oils bring, and the addition of coconut cream adds a silkiness — almost as if the icing for the cake has been folded right into the ball.
This is the recipe everyone needs tucked up their sleeve. No baking. Minimal prep. Just real ingredients, a food processor and a few quiet moments rolling everything together by hand.
Nutritionally, these little balls deliver: high in vitamin A and B, fibre, antioxidants, minerals, plant-based protein, omega-3s and potassium.
If you can, choose beautiful farm-grown organic carrots to maximise flavour and goodness. But if shop-bought is what you have, that’s more than enough. This recipe meets you where you are.
Perfect for lunchboxes (big and small), picnics, busy days, or eaten slowly alongside a cup of tea while waiting for the storm to arrive.

Notes
- To get the thick coconut cream on the top of a can buy, buy a coconut cream with a high fat content. Pop the can in the fridge overnight, and when you open it it will have solidified on the surface. Carefully scrape the cream off the top leaving the coconut water underneath.
- The remaining coconut water is great in curries, hot chocolates and smoothies.
- Linseed meal is available from health food shops or online and some major supermarkets. You can substitute with LSA (linseed, sunflower and almond) also available online, health food shops and major supermarkets.
